Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer AUROS
Assessed from a bottle purchased at the LCBO. This is the first time I have tasted this impressive Napa Valley assemblage. As I understand, it, Auros is made by Robert Mondaviís winemaker in Oakville and is owned by Constellation Brands. Having just taste it, I believe that a lot of knowledgeable California Cab fans are going to love it - whether or not they can afford it. It originates from three Napa Valley sub-appellations: Oak Knoll, Oakville and Stagís Leap and is a blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7.5% Petit Verdot, 5.7% Malbec, .5% Merlot and .3% Cabernet Franc which spent 18 months in French oak. Very deep intense purple colour, it has bright, somewhat cedary, intense, ripe, refined, plummy-black-cherry-cassis fruit along with some faintly leathery, mineral-tinged, slight mocha notes. Itís dry, medium-full bodied. harmonious and yet very well structured with lifted, ripe, cassis-crancherry fruit and a lingering, gently complex, sandalwood-tinged finish. It has 15.1% alcohol and yet is still fresh. Only 126 bottles are available. NEW in Vintages. CSPC 17121
