CAMPOLONGO DI TORBE AMARONE DELLA VALPOLICELLA CLASSICO 2012 DOCG
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer MASI
It would have been very helpful to readers if I had a current sample of this new shipment to taste but the agent did not provide a bottle assessment and I do not have a budget for this. A REPEAT of the 2012 (***) that was released on March 3, 2018 at $120.95. Here is my previous note: Extremely deep intense purple colour. Intense, slightly spicy, gently complex, sandalwood, expansive, ripe plum-cherry nose with some faintly savoury cedar-sandalwood notes. Dry, medium-full bodied, smooth, fairly extracty, intense, ripe plum and baked cherry flavours with a lingering, attractive, harmonious, somewhat cedary finish. At first taste, this 2013 seems surprisingly approachable and has 16% alcohol and 11 g/L residual sugar. I have assessed 15 releases (all posted in my database) since 2000 and have to say that this is more like the 2009 and not up to the recommended 2011 (***/***+) released on October 28, 2017 at $106.95. TASTING NOTE: What a gorgeous, voluptuous amarone! Great purity of expression with ripe but not raisined black cherry fruit, coddled within vaguely herbal, anise, tea and vanillin from the barrels. It is full bodied, plump, smooth and rich on the palate with alcohol power that doesn't explode in a fireball finish. Great tannin structure and length. Awesome. A wine for decades but you should really try it now to get the gist. Score - 97 (David Lawrason, winealign.com, Feb. 22, 2018) Price $ 129.95
