Assessed from a bottle provided by the producer. Medium-deep red colour. Initially fairly youthful, somewhat spicy, bright, ripe, plummy, red cherry nose with some minerally notes. Dry medium to medium-light bodied, very bright, slightly spicy, tangy, very fresh, lively, ripe crancherry flavours with a lingering, crisp, gently complex finish that shows some decent mid-palate structure. Surprisingly, this wine which was assessed by using my Coravin improved in the sealed bottle after resting a week on 1/3 argon gas exposure! It was riper, rounder and had attractive hints of toast from the 15 months of aging in French oak. Who would have known that the score would jump from 88 to 89. Has 13.3% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with the code WS20150906 on the lower part of the glass bottle. Not quite up to the riper (14% alcohol) recommended 2015 (**/**+) that was released on April 4, 2020 at $23.95. |

TASTING NOTE: The 2016 growing season was a good one, with no great swings in terms of temperature or precipitation, and conditions around the harvest were ideal. Expect this Pinot to be elegant and refined, with lifted floral tones and notes of cherry, strawberry, earth and spice, plus some touches of maturing fruit adding depth and complexity. Pair with grilled duck breast. |
