LAUNDRY VINEYARD CABERNET FRANC 2016 VQA Lincoln Lakeshore, Niagara Peninsula
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer TAWSE
Assessed from a bottle provided by the producer. This 2016 Cabernet Franc from the organically farmed Laundry Vineyard may well be the best yet! The fruit was extremely ripe with an abundance of flavours (25.1 brix) and yet still had excellent acidity (6.6 g/L). Very deep intense purple colour. Intense, spicy, very ripe, plummy, black cherry and cassis on the nose with some buttered toast and cedary notes. Dry, medium-deep bodied, harmonious, well structured, ripe, plummy-black-cherry-cassis flavours with a lingering, bright, gently cedary, fairly grippy, rich finish with attractive, faintly smoky notes. Great mouthfeel. Aged for 16 months in French oak, this impressive 100% Cabernet Franc has 14% and 4 g/L residual sugar. Only 9,000 bottles produced. CSPC 130997

A Best Buy
TASTING NOTE: Very pretty, evolving nose and terrifically savoury palate, this is both ripe and fresh, sappy and concentrated, fleshy but also firm. I love the fine-grained tannins, abundant but coated in loads of black berry and raspberry extract, and the excellent length and depth overall. A magnificent vintage for this perennial favorite from Tawse, a strength in the portfolio to be sure. I'd cellar for another year or so, or hold until the mid to late '20s.
