Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer MOT & CHANDON
Assessed from a bottle purchased at the LCBO. This 2012 is simply gorgeous and even better than before. Very bright pale straw colour with lovely streams of tiny bubbles. Intense, complex, slightly spicy, faintly honeyed, mineral-tinged, attractive, toasty, ripe lemon meringue, nose with some hazelnut and fresh churned butter notes. Dry, medium-full bodied, harmonious, well structured, rich, mouth-filling, intense, creamy albeit bright, ripe lemon meringue flavours with a long lingering, crisp, gently toasty, complex, rich finish and excellent effervescence. This new 2012 refined blend of now 41% Chardonnay (up from 36% in 2009), 33% Pinot Noir (down from 50%) and 26% Meunier (up from 14%) has 12.5% alcohol and 5 g/L residual sugar with a new lot number LALDG on the back label which states that it was disgorged on 10/2018. This suggests that it has 8 months more time on the lees than the previous release and is likely to be even better than the now outdated 92-point review appearing in the Vintages Catalogue. Do not serve overly chilled as you will suppress all the flavours. This is the best, most affordable, premium Champagne tasted all year. In fact, this REPEAT is even better that the recommended best buy 2012 (***/***+) that was released on November 23, 2019 at $93.95. Comes in a special gift box. CSPC 69773

A Best Buy
TASTING NOTE: Disgorged in February 2018 with five grams per liter dosage, Mot's 2012 Extra Brut Grand Vintage is showing well, unfurling in the glass with an expressive bouquet of ripe yellow orchard fruit, peaches, toasted nuts, warm bread and honeycomb. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, broad and fleshy, with a tangy but ripe core of fruit, nicely integrated acids and a pinpoint mousse, concluding with an attractively fruit-driven finish. The 2012 reflects both the concentration of the vintage and Mot's push for riper fruit, and it is already quite accessible. Drink date: 2018-2028.
