MACHINE BREAKER WE THE PEOPLE PINOT NOIR 2014 Unfined and unfiltered, Willamette Valley
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer Ransom Wines and Spirit
Assessed from a bottle purchased at the LCBO. OK - I was a tad skeptical about this 6-year-old unfined and unfiltered Willamette Valley Pinot Noir. Well one taste and I was no longer in doubt. Produced by Tad Seestedt of Ransom Wines and Spirits, the grapes were sourced from ungrafted, dy farmed vines on their own roots. There were six different vineyard sources, multiple clones - all 100% de-stemmed into 1.5-ton fermenters and aged 11 to 18 months in 2-year-old French oak barrels. Never to be repeated, only 1,829 cases were produced. Bright youthful medium-deep purple red colour. Fairly toasty, mineral-driven, lees-tinged, fruit-driven, plum-crancherry-raspberry nose. Very dry, medium bodied, quite well structured, slightly spicy, still fresh, ripe plum-cherry-raspberry flavours with a lingering, fairly high acid, slightly leafy finish. Perfection with a fresh Brome Lake duck! Has 31.1% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number 20160225 on the lower part of the glass bottle. NEW in Vintages. CSPC 15666

TASTING NOTE: An exciting, interesting wine that offers real intrigue. There's some gorgeous development here, with notes of red berry, mocha and cedar alongside supple tannins. Really impressive, with a good quality-to-price ratio. The mature notes in this Pinot call for duck or lamb. (Vintages panel, Sept. 2019) Price $ 29.95
