POTENTE 2018 DO Montsant |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
Celler DE Capçanes |
Assessed from a bottle purchased at the LCBO. Rather deep purple colour. Attractive, slightly spicy, sandalwood-tinged, ripe plum-cherry purée nose with some wild strawberry notes. Fairly dry, medium bodied, quite well structured, spicy, rounded, ripe plum-cherry-strawberry purée flavours with a lingering, sandalwood-tinged, fairly high acid finish. Quite ready to drink. This crowd-pleasing blend of 65% Garnacha, 15% Merlot, 10% Cariñena (Samsó) and 10% Syrah was aged for 6 to 9 months in a mix of new and up to 4 years old French and American oak barrels (225 l). It has 14.5% alcohol and 4 g/L residual sugar with lot number L0215c on the back label. |

TASTING NOTE: This is crafted in an approachable (frankly, yummy) style that offers plenty of red cherry, strawberry, redcurrant, underbrush, spice and leather. Solidly built, tasty and long, it will be a fine option for fall stews or roasted meats. (Vintages panel, Feb. 2020) |
