GRAVITY PINOT NOIR 2017 VQA Twenty Mile Bench, Niagara Escarpment |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
FLAT ROCK |
Assessed from a sample provided by the producer. Medium deep red colour with some faint amber notes on the . Intense, gently earthy, quite complex, fairly cedary, ripe, plummy, black cherry nose. Dry, medium bodied, tangy, slightly spicy, bright, intense, crancherry flavours with a lingering, fairly cedary, high acid finish. Quite well structured for a Pinot Noir, it has 13% alcohol and 4 g/L residual sugar with a screwcap closure and lot number 2019B152015866 on the back label. Screwcap closure. |

A Vintage Assessments Explorer's Selection! |
TASTING NOTE: Very ripe, juicy, fleshy, concentrated, this could easily pass for a pricey Sonoma Cost pinot, genuinely cool climate, but with billowing dark fruit and cola berry character, in any case, a very good wine from Flat Rock. I love the juicy berry fruit and the resinous, pine needle flavours, adding complexity and depth. Length, too, is impressive. I'd say best after 2021 or so, or hold into the mid-late '20s.
