OLD VINES GRENACHE/SYRAH/MOURVÈDRE 2017 AP Côtes du Roussillon |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
TESSELLAE |
A THIRD REPEAT of the 2017 that was released on November 23, 2019 at $18.95. Assessed from a bottle just purchased at the LCBO. Here is my new updated note from a bottle just purchased at the LCBO: Deep intense purple colour. Attractive, slightly spicy, gently juicy, ripe, plum-cherry puree nose with some faintly leathery notes.. Dry, medium bodied, fairly spicy, ripe, gently juicy, cherry-plum puree flavours with a lingering, tangy, gently mineral-tinged finish. Jean-Marc Lafage’s blend of 50% Grenache, 40% Syrah and 10% Mourvedre, all apparently aged in concrete, has 14.5% alcohol and now 5 g/L residual sugar with a new lot number L20157B on the lower part of the glass bottle. |

TASTING NOTE: The GSM of the estate, the 2017 Tessellae Old Vines checks in as 50% Grenache, 40% Syrah, and 10% Mourvèdre brought up mostly in concrete. Blackberries, kirsch, spice, incense, dried flowers, and baking spice notes all flow to a full-bodied, gorgeously textured effort. It's another gem from this team. Maturity: 2019-2022. Score - 92 (Jeb Dunnuck, jebdunnuck.com, April 3, 2019) |
