Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer IGNAMAGGIO
Assessed from a bottle purchased at the LCBO. Gherardino is dedicated to the Gherardinis, the Tuscan family that founded Vignamaggio in the 1300ís. It proves that you are never too old to be NEW in Vintages. Itís ripe and ready-to-drink. The nose is elegant and shows an abundance of the ripe, plummy, morello cherries fruit that typifies the best of the region with hints of cedar, tobacco, minerals and licorice. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, quite well structured, harmonious, sandalwood-tinged, ripe, plum-cherry flavours with a faintly cedary, autumnal, gently savoury, forest floor finish. Quite ready-to-drink. This blend of approximately 80% Sangiovese (18 months in 15-20 hl oak barrels) and 20% Merlot (12 months in French barriques) has 14% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number L6918 on the back label. The palate is very intense and incredibly energetic with bright acidity and firm, savory tannins. Long and beautiful. Drink in 2022.
