Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer MONTE DEL FRA
A REPEAT of the 2017 (not tasted) that was released on April 18, 2020 at $24.95. Assessed from a bottle purchased at the LCBO. fairly deep ruby red colour. Very agreeable, slightly spicy, ripe plummy nose with some woodsy, sandalwood notes. Dry, medium bodied, quite rounded, slightly spicy, fairly tangy, attractive, ripe plummy-cherry puree flavours with a lingering, very bright, gently complex, cedar-sandalwood tinged finish. This crowd-pleaser is ripe and ready and has 14% alcohol and 8 g/L residual sugar with lot number L.070 (perhaps March 10, 2020)on the back label. This 2017 is the 19th Vintages release of this wine since 2010 and may well be the best yet! Tasted side by side with a new packaging of the same wine with lot number L.049 (perhaps February 18, 2020) on the back label. The latter had a tad more ruby in colour and touch of ripe maraschino cherries on the nose. Pretty much the same score! CSPC 165662

TASTING NOTE: This is indicative of the potential for this kind of style in Valpolicella. It's so fragrant and expressive on the nose with bright raspberries, redcurrants, tulips, crushed stones and cumin. Medium-bodied and only lightly firm, it trots out bright berries and a generous yet sleek texture and form. Mineral undertones throughout. No frills, but no rough edges. So beautiful to drink now. Score - 93 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Nov. 7, 2019) Price $ 24.95
