Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |

GABRIEL MEFFRE |
Assessed from a bottle purchased at the LCBO. A tasty, well-priced, surprisingly well structured, southern Rhone blend. Bright deep purple red colour. Attractive, slightly spicy, maturing, fairly intense, plummy, ripe, cherry-raspberry nose with some complex sandalwood notes. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, well structured, fairly dense, gently earthy, fairly mature, intense, ripe, warm Damson plum flavours with a lingering, surprisingly mouth-filling, sandalwood-tinged, lifted, red licorice-tinged finish. This blend of Grenache and Syrah has 14% alcohol and 4 g/L residual sugar with lot number L173124 on the back label. Screwcap closure. NEW in Vintages. |

TASTING NOTE: This is lovely very classy Rhone blend of mostly grenache and syrah from the southern Rhone village of Vacqueras. The perfumed complex nose shows raspberry and candied red cherry with hints of tobacco, lemon, and warm spice. It is midweight, round and finely balanced with some firm tannin giving grip to the finish. Pure and clean with its power nicely tamed by soft acidity. Very good length. For fine dining with roast or grilled meats, or rich creamy cheese like Brie. Score - 90 (Steve Thurlow, winealign.com, April 20, 2018) |
