CHÂTEAU DE CHANTEGRIVE 2016 AC Graves |

Assessed from a bottle purchased at the LCBO. This is a great Graves especially for the money! It’s rich, ripe and mouth filling with splendid, gently woodsy, complex, sandalwood-cedar flavours that are focused on the still youthful, intense, ripe, Damson plum, cassis and black cherry fruit that goes on and on. The tannins are intense and quite ripe but it is all so well-integrated and complimented by just a faint hint of garrigue and hefty acidity. There is a surprising whack of high quality oak here, but Intense, like it. It would be perfection with a slightly charred medium-rare rib steak. This 13.5% alcohol blend of 50% Merlot and 50% Cabernet Sauvignon has 3 g/L residual sugar. I have enjoyed this Graves over the years and this 2016 beats out the 2000 which was released in Vintages on my birthday September 18, 2004 at $34.95 (#695437). |

TASTING NOTE: One of the leading estates in the Graves has produced an elegant, balanced wine. Wood aging has added to the fruit tannins to give plenty of structure to go with the black-currant fruits. This is a wine to age, drink from 2023. Score - 92 (Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, June 1, 2019) |
