MALIVOIRE |
Assessed from a bottle purchased at the LCBO. Bright medium-deep red colour. Slightly spicy, attractive, fresh, ripe plum-cherry nose with some mineral notes. Dry, medium-light bodied, spicy, tangy, fresh, ripe plum-cherry-raspberry flavours with a crisp, unoaked finish. Quite ready-to-drink, although it should hold well for another year or so. Fermented and aged in stainless steel and concrete tank, this wine went through secondary malolactic fermentation and was them split up - 35% staying in stainless steel and 65% into neutral oak barrels. This Vintages Essential has 12% alcohol and 5 g/L residual sugar with 6.4g/L total acidity. Screwcap closure. |

TASTING NOTE: Not widely seen outside France, Gamay thrives in Ontario and has become somewhat of a specialty. This example is ripe and refreshing, with juicy red berry fruit and peppery spice. It will shine with grilled gourmet sausages, roast beef with mashed potatoes, or lamb souvlaki. |
