CAHORS MALBEC 2016 AP Cahors |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |

Assessed from a bottle purchased at the LCBO. What a nice surprise! This attractive, fragrant, well balanced Malbec is is almost at the peak of drinking. Fairly deep intense purple in colour, it has a surprisingly fragrant nose with lots of slightly spicy, plummy-cherry-cassis notes. Dry medium bodied and well balanced, the fragrant nuances of violets/roses and ripe plum flavours carry some bright mineral notes and hints of cassis and raspberry on the lingering, tangy, fairly high acid finish. It is seemingly unoaked and does not have a hugh structure - but who cares? Has 13% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number L14837002194 on the lower part of the glass bottle and on the back label. |

TASTING NOTE: This well-balanced wine shows both the tannins of Cahors and the fruit. It has structure, with a dry core that contrasts with the rich black fruits, laced with acidity and full of potential. Drink from 2020. Best Buy. Score - 90 (Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, June 1, 2019) |
