Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer MONASTERIO DE LAS VIÑAS
Assessed from a bottle purchased at the LCBO. Very deep intense purple colour. Gently cedary, spicy, intense, ripe plum purée nose with some cassis-tinged, cedar-sandalwood notes. Dry, medium bodied, quite well structured, slightly spicy, very bright, ripe, plum-cherry purée flavours with a lingering, tangy, very faintly peppery, sandalwood-ceday finish. This blend of 70% Garnacha, 20% Tempranillo and 10% Cariñena was aged in barrel for 12 months (70% American and 30% French) and as 13.5% alcohol and 4 g/L residual sugar with lot number 190512 on the back label. This is the second REPEAT of the 2014 that was last released on November 9, 2019 at $14.95. CSPC 166579

A Best Buy
TASTING NOTE: You'd not believe the structural components of such a red blend from Cariñena but falling short of travelling there to see the ancient vines and wild frontier you will just have to purchase two, try one in its still austere youth, store one away and come back again for that second bottle in no less than five years. You will be amazed at the transformation and the ability to survive. Crunchy fruit and dry, long-chained tannins. One of Spain's hidden secrets. Drink: 2020-2027.
