Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer R. LOPEZ DE HEREDIA
There are a number of high-priced rosé wines at Vintages. Here is the best: a remarkable Gran Reserva Rioja that is truly worth the price. Ambering light orange colour, this 2010 has an intense, distinctive, gently toasty, Seville orange marmalade-tinged nose that makes you think of all the complex nuances that make the greatest of Riojas so incredibly special. Persimmon, tangerine, rose hip, violets, sandalwood , even a hint of an ancient Fino - it goes on and on. Dry, medium bodied, well structured and intense, and yet well balanced and harmonious with tangy, toasty, ripe, plummy-black-cherry-cassis fruit - a spider’s web of maturing albeit fully alive lingering flavours. This blend of 60% Garnacho, 30% Tempranillo and 10% Viura has 13% alcohol and 1 g/L residual sugar with lot number L-0559 on the back label. It spent 4 years in barrel and is unfiltered, which accounts for the great mouthfeel. Always extremely hard to find and now NEW in Vintages - move quickly as it sells out immediately. CSPC 15781

TASTING NOTE: López de Heredia ages this rosé before release. Tim Matthews only recently reviewed the 2009, awarding it 93 points and calling it distinctive and unique \"... [with] tangy acidity and light, firm tannins ... plenty of structure for food ... Orange peel, tarragon, iodine and beeswax ... dried cherry and tangerine flavors\" (winespectator.com, March 31, 2020). Matthews suggested a drinking window extending through 2029. Price $ 41.95
