L'ORMARINS CAP CLASSIQUE BLANC DE BLANCS 2013 Traditional method, WO Western Cape, South Africa
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer ANTHONIJ RUPERT
Assessed from a bottle purchased at the LCBO. The Western Cape 100% Chardonnay has a bright pale straw colour. The nose gently leesy with some lemon-apple meringue fruit and bright mineral notes. Dry, medium bodied, quite well structured, gently complex, still surprisingly youthful, fairly intense, lemon-apple meringue flavours with a lingering, mineral-tinged, very gently toasty, nicely structured, fairly high acid (7.35 g/L total acidity), effervescent finish. It has 12.5% alcohol with number L20079 which is the date of labeling. The wine was tiraged on October 1, 2013 and disgorged on February 3, 2018 with 7.38 g/L residual sugar meaning that it was on the lees for 52 months. CSPC 15681

TASTING NOTE: One of a quartet of bubblies in the Anthonij Rupert range, this Blanc de Blancs marries Chardonnay grapes from Elandskloof and Darling. Late disgorged - and so reviewed as a new wine this year - it tastes much drier than its 8 grams of dosage, with chiselled focus and fine bubbles. 2019-24. Score - 92 (Tim Atkin, MW, timatkin.com, South Africa Special Report 2019) Price $ 24.95
