GARDET BRUT TRADITION CHAMPAGNE Chigny-les-Roses, AC |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |

GARDET |
Assessed from a bottle purchased at the LCBO. This reliable house produces the consistent, very user-friendly, “Tradition” Brut which was previously labelled as “Cuvée Saint Flavy” (now only on back label). Bright pale straw colour, the bouquet is marked with some gentle mineral notes, a faint hint of honey, a touch of spice and warm ripe apple-lemon fruit along with some slight toasty notes. Dry, medium bodied, slightly spicy, attractive, harmonious, ripe lemon-apple flavours with a lingering, faintly toasty, effervescent, gently complex finish. This non-vintage blend of 45% Pinot Noir, 45% Meunier and 10% Chardonnay has 12% alcohol and 8 g/L residual sugar with number 51K1040G on the lower part of the glass bottle. Although ready-to-drink, it will still evolve and improve in the bottle with another year or some of aging. Last appeared in Vintages (***) on July 20, 2019 at $43.95 and was Recommended. |

TASTING NOTE: This is a fine, friendly, fruit-driven Champagne with mild croissant and almond complexity around freshly baked apple. It is light to mid-weight with active mousse, just a hint of sweetness and very good acidity. The length is very good to excellent. An easy, well-priced reception Champagne that also has some class. Score - 90 (David Lawrason, winealign.com, Nov. 2, 2018) |
