THE TRINITY RED BLEND 2015 Hawke's Bay, North Island |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
TRINITY HILL |
Assessed from a bottle purchased at the LCBO. Very deep intense purple colour. Intense, fairly complex, slightly spicy, sandalwood-tinged, gently cedary, ripe plum-cherry nose. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, spicy, very faintly herbal, intense, ripe plum-cherry flavours with a lingering, fairly high acid, gently cedary, firm, slightly herb-tinged finish. This NEW blend accounts for the new flavour profile - 55% Merlot (same as before), now 13% Cabernet Franc (it was 0 before and accounts for some of the herbal notes), 12% Cabernet Sauvignon (was 13%), 11% Malbec (was 8%), 7% Tempranillo (was 17%) and 0% Syrah (was 7%). It has 13% alcohol and 3 g/L residual sugar (not 6 g/L as appears on the LCBO website) with lot numbers L8838 and 07/12/17 on the lower part of the glass bottle. Screwcap closure. The riper recommended 2014 with 89+ points was released on May 12, 2018 at $22.95. |

TASTING NOTE: Merlot-dominant blend from a good Hawke's Bay vintage. Rich, fleshy and attractive red with chocolate/mocha, plum and spicy oak flavours. A medium-bodied wine with a perfect balance between sweet fruit, alcohol and gently drying tannins. Offers good value at this price. Drink 2018-2021. Score - 92 (Bob Campbell, MW, bobcampbell.nz, June 29, 2018) |
