CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2016 Napa Valley |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
DUCKHORN |
Unable to get a bottle for assessment from agent. A REPEAT of the recommended 2016 (***) that was released on November 9, 2019 at $89.95. Here is my previous note: Deep intense purple colour. Attractive, intense, spicy, very juicy, ripe, plum-cherry nose with some faintly savoury, cassis-tinged, cedary notes. Dry, medium-full bodied, well structured, fairly spicy, intense, ripe, plum-cherry-cassis flavours with some gentle cedary notes on the lingering, high acid, complex finish. Has 14.5% alcohol and 4 g/L residual sugar with 14.5% alcohol and 4 g/L residual sugar with lot number 1318 on the lower part of the glass bottle. |

TASTING NOTE: There's black-currant clarity to this clean and luscious cabernet, a blend of Duckhorn's estate-grown fruit with purchased grapes. The dark fruit is layered with brighter black-raspberry flavor and rich chocolate tones from its time in French oak barrels (50 percent new). Relatively light in weight but saturated in flavor, the wine sustains a lovely mineral tension as it opens with air. Score - 93 (wineandspirits.com, Oct. 2019) |
