Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
ANGELS GATE |
Assessed from a bottle purchased at the LCBO. Bright light straw colour. Complex, mineral-driven, intense, ripe, apple-lemon meringue nose with some toasty, notes. Dry, medium bodied, quite well structured, fairly spicy, effervescent, complex, bright, lemon-apple meringue flavours with a lingering, fairly high acid, crisp, mineral finish. A traditional food inspired sparkler will appeal to fans of very dry Brut Champagne. This batch disgorged 100% Chardonnay spent a minimum of 60 months on its lees. It has 12% alcohol and 9 g/L residual sugar. The recommended 2013 (***) with 90-points was released on May 11, 2019 at $29.95. |

TASTING NOTE: Niagara sparkling wine is truly in its ascendancy, moving from strength to strength. In this exciting, dynamic atmosphere, the wines of winemaker Philip Dowell are among the very best of the best. Expect this traditional method sparkler to be complex and creamy, with a superb depth of apple and citrus alongside vanilla, toast and underlying minerality. This is a wine for dinner, not just for celebrating. |
