Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer QUERCIABELLA
Originally released in the May 16, 2020 Vintages Release. I assessed from a bottle purchased at the LCBO on September 27th due to a rave review reported to me be a fellow wine enthusiast. I was honestly astonished by the sky-high scores that this wine received from some well-known critics - as high as 95-points. Indeed, apparently some compared it to Tignanello and/or Guado al Tasso that cost up to six times the price. This organic blend of 50% Sangiovese, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Merlot has a deep intense dark ruby-purple colour. The nose, which is initially slightly dusty, has brick-tinged, ripe Damson plums and sandalwood. It is dry, medium-full bodied, well structured, intense, still youthful, fairly grippy, dark plum flavours with some faintly earthy, complex, fairly high acid, cedar-sandalwood notes along with some hints of red licorice on the lingering finish. This is a well-made wine, although I would not compare it to the aforementioned much high-priced, higher scoring stars. It has 14% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number L1816 on the capsule. CSPC 13653
