GLEN CARLOU COLLECTION RED BLEND 2017 WO Simonsberg-Paarl |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |

GLEN CARLOU |
Assessed from a bottle purchased at the LCBO. An intense, complex, rather muscular, Bordeaux-inspired blend that shows terrific extract. Double Gold at Michelangelo International Wine Award winner - only 2,660 bottles were produced and Vintages has 240 of them. Extremely deep intense purple colour. Very attractive, intense, ripe, plum-black-cherry-cassis nose with some slightly earthy, sandalwood-cedar notes. Dry, medium-full to full bodied, well textured, extracty, rich, bright, intense, ripe, plum-cherry-cassis flavours with a lingering, complex, gently cedary, fairly high acid, sandalwood-tinged finish. It will definitely keep but is showing so well that you can consider drinking it now. This blend 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc has 14% alcohol and 4 g/L residual sugar and 6.2 g/L total acidity. Aged for 16 months in 10 French oak - 70% new. |

TASTING NOTE: Equal parts cab & cab franc join 20% merlot in 2017 debut. Turned earth, mocha swarthiness is refined, rich & rewarding. Muscular but smooth & layered. Needs time but will reward patience. Score - 94 (Platter's South African Wine Guide, 2019) |
