CULMINA R BC VQA Golden Mile Bench, Okanagan Valley
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer CULMINA
Assessed from a sample provided by the winery. Very deep intense purple colour. Fairly cedary, somewhat smoky, intense, bright, very ripe, black-cherry-plum purée nose with some mineral-tinged dark chocolate notes. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, quite well structured, slightly spicy, intense, ripe, plummy-cherry flavours with a lingering, bright, gently cedary, mocha-chocolate-tinged finish. This slightly smoky, seemingly ready-to-drink blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc has 14% alcohol and 4 g/L residual sugar with a screwcap closure. Try with a flavourful lamb stew. The 2014 (**/**+) was released on April 16, 2016 at $25.95. CSPC 445494

TASTING NOTE: R & D is a less expensive blend employing the same five varieties used in Hypothesis, aged in French and American oak. Merlot is the base. It has a very impressive, complex nose with fairly deep blackberry fruit generously oaked with resin, dark chocolate and spicy complexity. It is medium-full bodied, fairly dense and rich with considerable green tannin, alcohol and resin on the finish. The length is excellent. I would age this until 2020 at least; the emerging signature of Culmina's reds. Score - 90 (David Lawrason, winealign.com, Nov. 19, 2018) Price $ 27.95
