14 NERO D'AVOLA 2016 IGT Terre Siciliane |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
MONTEDIDIO |
Assessed from a bottle purchased at the LCBO. Deep violet ruby red colour. Slightly spicy, bright, youthful, ripe raspberry-plum nose with some mineral notes. Dry, medium to medium-light bodied, tangy, fresh, ripe, raspberry-plum-cassis fruit flavours with a seemingly unoaked, fairly high acid finish. This 100% Nero d'Avola has 14% alcohol and 15 g/L residual sugar with lot number L.20-3-18 on the back label. Well priced, versatile and ready-to-drink. Has not appeared in Vintages before. |

TASTING NOTE: This 100% Nero d'Avola comes from vines planted in primarily calcareous (limestone) soils, which encourage freshness in the final wines. This one is big and lush, with firm tannins, good blackberry fruit and a coffee note. The structure makes it great for braised meats. (Vintages panel, July 2019) [Luca Maroni did not include a tasting note.] Score - 95 (Luca Maroni, lucamaroni.com, Feb. 5, 2018) |
