BRUT CHAMPAGNE 2012 AC, France
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer PIPER-HEIDSIECK
In France judging the 2020 Concours Mondial du Sauvignon. Here is Tony Asplerís review. Golden straw colour; minerally, lightly honeyed nose of apples and white blossom; medium-bodied, dry, very elegant with zest acidity and great length. No back label. This blend of 52% Pinot Noir and 48% Chardonnay has 12% and 11 g/L residual sugar. Also tasted by one of my colleagues who scored it 94-points: This mature, bone dry Champagne has an intense, classic hazelnut, lemon, dried apple, toasty nose. Very firm, tart-edged and intensely flavoured as well. The finish is quite nutty; the length is excellent to outstanding. CSPC 409326

TASTING NOTE: Very much a youngster, even after five-and-a-half years on its lees. A blend of 52% Pinot Noir and 48% Chardonnay, 2012 has the potential for some of the best Pinot Noir since 1952. With vivid shafts of gold colour, this displays intensity without heaviness, a poised vinosity and lovely acidity. It will live well for another decade and is a great match for roast game, bouillabaisse, dressed crab and scallops. The dosage of 10g/l is quite conventional, suiting a structured wine for a long life. Drinking window: 2021-2030. Score - 94 (Michael Edwards, decanter.com, July 7, 2019) Price $ 79.95
