PINOT NOIR 2018 Certified sustainable, Marlborough, South Island |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
BLACK COTTAGE |
A very appealing, ripe, fruit-driven, crowd-pleasing Marlborough Pinot Noir that is a fraction of the price of something you might find from California. Bright medium-deep red colour. Intense, spicy, fairly complex, ripe, plummy-crancherry nose with some slightly minty, faintly leathery, mineral notes. Dry, medium to medium-light bodied, tangy, harmonious, fresh, ripe, crancherry flavours with a lingering, fairly high acid, gently cedary, mineral-tinge, dried herb inflected finish. Has 14% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number 9157 on the lower part of the glass bottle. Screwcap closure. Has not appeared in Vintages before. |

TASTING NOTE: Sweetly fruited and inviting, the attractively expressed bouquet shows ripe plum, cranberry, floral, spice and toasted almond characters with a hint of dried herb complexity. The palate is juicy and beautifully rounded, delivering pristine fruit flavours together with subtle savoury undertones, backed by polished tannins. Smooth, lingering and very appealing. Drink now to 2022. Score - 91 (Sam Kim, wineorbit.co.nz, March 2019) |
