EPIPHANY SHIRAZ 2017 Epiphany Vineyard, McLaren Vale, South Australia |

SISTER'S RUN |
Extremely deep intense purple colour. Spicy, somewhat herbal, bright, youthful, ripe, plummy, black cherry nose with some mineral-tinged notes. Dry, medium bodied, quite well structured, spicy, tangy, youthful, plum-cherry flavours with a lingering, high acid, somewhat cedary, mineral-mocha-chocolate-tinged finish. Has 14.5% alcohol and 4 g/L residual sugar with a NEW lot number L9270 on the lower part of the glass bottle. Screwcap closure. This THIRD REPEAT 2017 (not presented at either previous releases) last appeared on September 14, 2019 at $17.95. While I stand by my most recent 88.5-point rating, I had a chance to taste a previous shipment of this wine with lot number L9122 on the lower part of the glass bottle. For whatever reason, this earlier bottling was considerably more attractive with an abundance of cassis notes (very muted in the new shipment) and scored a resounding 90-points a Recommended Best Buy. |

TASTING NOTE: Natalie MacLean awarded this wine 91 points: \"... a great value, medium-bodied Shiraz under $20. Immensely drinkable with juicy blackberry, dark chocolate, savoury herbs and toasty oak all delivered on a velvety palate. With ripe blackberry, red berry jam, plum, cocoa, savoury herbs and toasted nut flavours on the palate. Shiraz does well in the cool-climate of the McLaren Vale and is the wine region's most popular wine grape. Pair this beauty with a striploin beef steak.\" (nataliemaclean.com, March 14, 2019) [The 2018 IWSC Sommelier Challenge did not include a tasting note.] Score - 94 (sommelierchallenge.com, 2018) |
