KEW VINEYARDS |
Deep intense ruby colour with a faintly bricky edge. Intense, fairly spicy, very gently herbal, complex, intense, maturing, ripe plum-black-cherry nose with lots of cedary-sandalwood notes. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, well structured, intense, warm, ripe, plum-cherry flavours with a lingering, cedary, bricky-tobacco-tinged finish that shows lots of mineral-red-licorice notes. This 100% Cabernet Franc was made using the appassimento method, meaning that the grapes dried to concentrate sugars and flavours. It is aged in 1-2 year-old previously used French barrels and has 16% alcohol and 4 g/L residual sugar. Only 290 cases being produced and was initially released in January 2017. An interesting, distinctive style that is worth exploring but is not for everyone. Has not appeared in Vintages before. |

A Vintage Assessments Explorer's Selection! |
TASTING NOTE: Though previous vintages have been a blend of Bordeaux varietals, the 2013 is crafted from 100% Cabernet Franc. Made using the appassimento method, which sees the grapes dried to concentrate sugars and flavours, the 2013 will be smooth and rich, with impressive Cab Franc expression. Look for cassis, plum and bell pepper tones, with coffee and tobacco accents. A refined, flavourful pairing for lamb. |
