Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
CASA SILVA |
Very deep intense purple colour. Slightly spicy, herbal, dusty, youthful, plum nose with some cedary, mocha-chocolate notes. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, quite well structured, cedary, slightly spicy, intense, very faintly dusty, plum flavours with a lingering, high acid, gently cedary, faintly herbal finish. This blend of 97% Syrah and 3% Viognier has 14.5% alcohol and 4 g/L residual sugar. Needs time - try with roast beef. TONY ASPLER / 89-points / TRY - Lightly cedary, spicy vanilla and blackberry on the nose; medium-bodied, dry, ripe black fruit flavours tinged with dried herbs. Has not appeared in Vintages before. |

TASTING NOTE: Silky and graceful. A sophisticated and beautifully-balanced syrah that is only just beginning to open up, but the finish is already long and refined. Better from 2019 or 2020. Score - 93 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, March 16, 2018) |
