Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer CHÂTEAU CAMPLONG
Extremely deep intense purple colour. Intense, complex, ripe, plummy nose with some cedary, herb-tinged, baked cherry notes. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, fairly dense, intense, slightly spicy, gently complex, plummy-cherry flavours with a lingering, violet-tinged, fairly high acid finish. This tasty blend of 36% Syrah, 33% Grenache, 26% Carignan and 5% Mourvedre has 14.5% alcohol and 5 g/L residual sugar with lot number L19261 on the lower part of the glass bottle. I was initially tempted to give this 89-90 points, but when I returned to taste it again a few hours later at the end of the lab tasting session, I found that its freshness had faded and it even seemed a tad oxidized suggesting that it is really at it’s peak of drinkability. As long as it holds up, this is a great buy, but drink soon. Tasted once. Has not appeared in Vintages before. CSPC 12990

TASTING NOTE: The soils of Corbières are a complex mix of limestone, marl and sandstone, and the region is subject to both the cold, dry winds that sweep down from the north and the warm, humid winds that flow in from the Mediterranean. Look for this to be a rich, fruity, herbal-accented wine perfect for braised beef or grilled rosemary lamb chops. (2019) Price $ 13.95
