L'APPEL DES SEREINES SYRAH 2016 Vin de France
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer FRANÇOIS VILLARD
Deep purple colour. Attractive, complex, fairly intense, slightly spicy, sandalwood-tinged, ripe, plum-cherry with some mineral-hay-tinged, faintly smoky, woodruff notes. Dry, medium bodied, quite well structured, very spicy, complex, sandalwood-tinged, ripe plum flavours with some hints of violet on the lingering, high acid, harmonious, gently cedary finish. This ready-to-drink Syrah has 12.5% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar. Has not appeared in Vintages before. The name of this cuvée refers to one of the old names for Syrah, Serene, which apparently evokes the bewitching song of the sirens.

TASTING NOTE: Aromas of crushed, dark, violet-like flowers, grey stones, red fruit and pepper. There's plenty of pepper on the palate, too, laced through ripe red plums and cherries. Superb balance here. Very approachable tannins. Drink now or hold. Score - 92 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Jan. 7, 2019) Price $ 19.95
