Extremely deep intense purple colour. Somewhat herbal, spicy, ripe, warm, plum-cherry nose with some cedary notes and hints of cassis. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, well structured, fairly dense, extracty, herb-tinged, ripe plum-cherry-cassis flavours with a lingering, high acid, gently cedary finish. TASTING NOTE: The Almahue zone doesn't just have very old carménère, it also has cabernet sauvignon. This one is from a vineyard planted by one of the Edwards' neighbors in 1950. This cabernet has an abundance of earthy notes over a structure of firm and very tense tannins. It also has ripe red fruit as well as spices and that earthy side that lends great complexity. Score - 94 (Patricio Tapia, guiadescorchados.cl, 2018) |
