MARSANNE 2019 VQA Beamsville Bench, Niagara Escarpment, Ontario
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer KEW VINEYARDS
This new blend of 93% Marsanne and 7% Viognier has a bright medium straw colour and an attractive intense nose that's slightly spicy, gently toasty and quite complex with ripe, citrusy, lemon-apple meringue fruit. Dry, medium bodied, harmonious and well structured, the elegant, bright, ripe, lemon-apple-apricot flavours are followed up by a lingering, faintly savoury finish. Versatile and ready-to-drink - great with oysters, seafood and/or poultry. This bargain-priced Rhone-inspired blend has 14.3% alcohol, 3 g/L residual sugar and 5.7 g/L total acidity. It spent 8 months in 100% French oak with lees aging and has a screwcap closure. CSPC 485334

TASTING NOTE: Marsanne is a classic of the Rhône Valley in France, so it's no surprise that it's a rarity in Ontario. But this old-world delight shines bright. Kew planted their Marsanne 16 years ago, and the wine has gone from strength to strength. This example is crisp, refreshing, precise and intense, with orange citrus, tropical fruit, pear, caramel, butterscotch, and a fine underlying mineral tone. Price $ 19.95
Bottle Size 750 mL
