MAHIR BAY ISLAY SINGLE MALT SCOTCH WHISKY Unchillfiltered, natural colour
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer KILCHOMAN
Formerly in Vintages, this is my pick for Robbie Burns Day. It's one of the best LCBO SINGLE MALT releases I have tasted in a long time. Light yellow colour with a very attractive, intense, slightly spicy, honeyed, gently smoky, peaty, warm plum purée nose with some bright, caramel-tinged floral notes. Dry, medium-full bodied, well structured, intense, rich, harmonious, slightly spicy, honeysuckle flavours with some bright, lemony-creme brulee notes on the long, gently smoky, elegant, uplifted, caramel-tinged finish. This vatting of 90% Bourbon casks and 10% Oloroso Sherry casks has 46% alcohol with lot number 13/06/22 22/114. Rated heavily peated at 50 ppm CSPC 346338

TASTING NOTE: Pours a vivid pale gold; the aromas immediately hit your nose with notes of smoke and brine, reminiscent of a seaside bonfire. Digging deeper, one finds integrated aromas of crisp apple, lemon peel, dried heather and honey. On the palate, it is smooth and pleasantly warm, with a lovely marriage of sweet and smoky flavours.
