FONTANABIANCA BARBARESCO 2015 DOCG
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer FONTANABIANCA
One of 72 items (60% of 136 releases) not presented for evaluation under new LCBO policies. Arrived late in the stores due to LCBO shipping problems. I purchased a bottle for assessment and here is my note. Here is my previous note: Medium-deep violet-red colour with a very faint hint of amber on the edge. Attractive, faintly spicy, anise-tinged, plummy, ripe red cherry nose with some sandalwood, notes. Very dry, medium-full bodied, youthful, grippy, red peppercorn-tinged, firm but ripe, intense, plum-cherry flavours with a long, lingering, fairly high acid, mineral-tinged, gently savoury, sandalwood-cedar-rose-petal-cassis finish. Needs time to evolve - at least 2-3 years. Decant in the meantime. Has 14% alcohol and 6 g/L residual sugar with lot number L8070/1 on the back label. CSPC 576819

TASTING NOTE: Enticing aromas of woodland berry, rose petal, underbrush and a balsamic note lead the nose. On the juicy, savory palate, notes of star anise, white pepper and mint accent a red-cherry core. It's well balanced, with fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity. Drink 2021-2029. Score - 92 (Kerin O'Keefe, Wine Enthusiast, Dec. 1, 2018) Price $ 39.95
