FAUSTINO I GRAN RESERVA 2005 DOCa Rioja
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer FAUSTINO MARTINEZ
The LCBO refused to allow the accredited wine reviewers to taste this March 16 release. A SECOND REPEAT of the 2005 (***) with 90-points that was released on August 4, 2018 at $35.95. Here is my note: Fairly deep intense purple colour. Very cedary, intense, spicy, baked plum nose with some sandalwood notes. Dry, medium bodied, well structured, harmonious, cedary, intense, baked plum flavours with a lifted, lingering, high acid, sandalwood-tinged finish. This REPEAT blend of 86% Tempranillo, 9% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo (Cariņena) was aged for 26 months in oak barrels. TONY ASPLER / 90-points - Sandalwood and red berry bouquet; medium-bodied, strawberry and red plum flavours, firmly structured with fresh acidity. Has 13.5% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with bottle number 050006 on the front label. CSPC 976662
