JARDIN INSPECTOR PÉRINGUEY CHENIN BLANC 2016 WO Stellenbosch |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |

JORDAN WINE ESTATE |
Bright deep straw colour. Attractive, intense, complex, somewhat spicy, cedary, gently toasty, citrusy, ripe lemon meringue nose with some earthy notes. Dry, medium bodied, well structured, tangy, very bright, ripe lemon meringue flavours with lots of toasty notes on the lingering, high acid finish. A truly terrific Chenin Blanc - don’t miss this remarkable best buy! Has 14% alcohol and 2.9 g/L residual sugar with a screwcap closure. After gentle pressing, the juice was barrel-fermented in 228L in 30% third-fill & 70% Burgundian-shaped barrels. It was then matured “sur-lie” in the barrel for 8 months with occasional “barrel rolling” to add richness to the palate. To accentuate the fresh citrus flavours, 36% of tank-fermented Chenin Blanc was blended with the barrel fermented portion. TONY ASPLER / 90-points / BEST BUY - Slightly reductive nose of pear with a barnyard note; medium-dry, pear and quince flavours. A well-balanced wine. A TOP FIVE-STAR WINE OF THE YEAR in Platter's 2018 Wine Guide. |

TASTING NOTE: Like 15, 16 typical of the 'rich & ripe' chenin style with older-oak ferment & -ageing on lees. Composed & seamless, shows pinpoint balance of weight, finesse & power, fine acidity from 35% tank portion. Score - 5 Stars (out of 5) (Platter's South African Wine Guide, 2018) |
