JONTY'S DUCKS PEKIN RED 2014 WO Paarl
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer AVONDALE
Very deep intense purple colour. Fairly intense, cedary, baked plum-cherry nose with some very faintly herbal notes. Dry, medium bodied, quite well structured, harmonious, slightly spicy, intense, ripe plum-cherry puree flavours with a lingering, high acid, somewhat cedary, mocha-chocolate-tinged finish. Quite youthful - should age well. TONY ASPLER / 88.5-points / BEST BUY - Smoky, tarry, spicy, blackberry nose; full-bodied, firmly structured, mouth-filling, well-balanced, savoury black plum flavours with an inky finish. Has 14% alcohol and 3 g/L residual sugar with lot number 33217 on the back label and a screwcap closure. CSPC 383547

TASTING NOTE: This organically farmed wine takes its name from the ducks that owner Johnathan (Jonty) Grieve uses to combat snails and other pests in the vineyard. The Pekin Red is a supple, tasty blend of Shiraz, Cab Sauv, Merlot, Cab Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. It shows good structure and balance, with mixed red and black fruit alongside touches of vanilla and earth. Really nice and a great value, too. This is a wine with broad appeal and the range to work with a variety of grilled meats, and even turkey. (Vintages panel, April 2018) Price $ 16.95
