BEROLA 2014 DO Campo de Borja
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer BORSAO
Extremely deep intense purple colour. Intense, complex, spicy, ripe, warm, intense plum-cherry puree nose with some mocha-chocolate notes. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, quite well structured, intense, ripe plum-cherry puree flavours with a lingering, slightly cedary, sandalwood-tinged, mocha-chocolate finish. This new blend of 80% Grenache, and 20% Syrah (aged in French oak for 14 months) has 15% alcohol and 3 g/L residual sugar with lot number L169019-2 on the back label. TASTING NOTE: The 2014 Berola is a blend of Garnacha and 20% Syrah aged in French and American oak barrels for 14 months. It has a similar profile to the Bole, but with more influence from the élevage, with Garnacha that was close to getting in the blend of Tres Picos, and Syrah that could almost make it into Zarihs. The nose combines, smoky, spicy and creamy notes with aromas of ripe berries and a touch of earth. It's a matter of style, but I like it less when the oak is more obvious, even if the wider audience might prefer it. However, this should work very well with food and better integrate the oak with a little more time in bottle. Drink Date: 2017-2019.
