VALLE REALE |
Very faintly ambering deep purple colour. Slightly spicy, dusty plum nose with some sandalwood notes. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, well structured, spicy, intense, plum-cherry flavours with a lingering, crisp, high acid, sandalwood finish. Surprisingly fresh considering its age. Of course, DOC regulations allow new bottlings to taken from say stainless steel storage tanks and be topped up with a limited percentage of fresh new wine. This one has 13.5% alcohol and 5 g/L residual sugar with a new lot number L18050 on the back label. The more recent 2007 (**/**+) was released on November 25, 2017 at $21.95. You can safely ignore the tasting note appearing in the Vintages Catalogue. |

TASTING NOTE: This is superb, still showing red berry fruit with great character. Ripe plum and blackcurrant with an evocative forest note and a firm finish. Pour with slow-roasted pork roast or grilled lamb. (Vintages panel, Sept. 2017) TASTING NOTE: [Gambero Rosso did not include a tasting note along with the score.] Score - 3 Glasses (out of 3) (Gambero Rosso Italian Wines, 2017) |
