CHÂTEAU DE LAFAURIE-MONBADON 2015 AC Côtes de Bordeaux Castillon |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |

Deep intense purple colour. Slightly spicy, dusty plum-cherry-apple nose with some hints of sandalwood. Dry, medium bodied, slightly spicy, tangy, plummy, dried apple-cherry flavours with a lingering, crisp, herbal finish. This organic blend of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc has 14.5% alcohol and 4 g/L residual sugar. It will probably get better with a year of some of aging. The 2010 (*+/**) was released on February 1, 2014 at $15.95. |

TASTING NOTE: Far too many people are scared off by Bordeaux's reputation, shying away from these wines because of the assumption that they command high prices. But as this 2015 from Château de Lafaurie-Monbadon demonstrates, Bordeaux is also home to great value as well as super-premium wines. This is mostly Merlot with Cab Sauv and Franc, and has impressive, forward rich black fruit and cassis with touches of spice. This should be a leading candidate for your go-to wine when you are looking to add a dash of class to your meal, but without undo sticker shock. (Vintages panel, April 2017) |
