THE BLACK CHOOK |
Extremely deep intense purple colour. Fairly juicy, spicy, slightly peppery, plum-cherry puree nose with some cedary notes. Fairly dry, medium bodied, tangy, spicy, cherry-plum flavours with a lingering, cedary, slightly smoky finish. This REPEAT of 96% Shiraz and 4% Viognier has 14.5% alcohol and a only 4 g/L residual sugar with a screwcap closure. Better than the 2016 (**) that was last released on December 9, 2017 at $18.95. |

TASTING NOTE: An impressively fruited shiraz with a touch of Padthaway viognier (4%), the beautifully perfumed bouquet shows black/blueberry, cranberry, cocoa, toasted hazelnut and spice aromas. The palate is succulent and rounded, and delivers excellent mid palate weight and texture, brilliantly supported by polished tannins. Hugely appealing. At its best: now to 2021. Score - 93 (Sam Kim, wineorbit.co.nz, Aug. 2017) |
