Deep intense very red colour. Spicy, bright, faintly mocha-chocolate-tinged, ripe plum-cherry puree nose. Dry, medium bodied, slightly spicy, bright, ripe plum-cherry flavours with a lingering, fairly high acid, faintly floral, licorice-tinged finish. Perhaps a tad fruity for my palate. According to the winery website, this blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Cinsault, 5% Mourvèdre and 5% Syrah (in contrast to what appears in the Vintages Catalogue) has 15% alcohol and 4 g/L residual sugar. Also, 50% aged in cement tank and the rest in 3-years-old demi-muids for 15 months. TONY ASPLER / 90-points - Cedary blackberry nose with an earthy note; medium to full-bodied, dry, savoury-herbal blackberry flavour with a bitter chocolate note and a firm tannic finish. Hold 5 - 6 years. |

TASTING NOTE: The 2015 Chateauneuf du Pape is a great effort that should be reasonably available. Produced from vines under 30 years old, it's a blend of 85% Grenache, 5% Cinsault, 5% Mourvèdre and 5% Syrah. There's a tinge of chocolate to the raspberry and licorice flavors but also hints of orange zest, cinnamon and clove. It's full-bodied and lush, with a long finish. There's no need to defer gratification, but it should drink well for at least a decade. Score - 93 (Joe Czerwinski, robertparker.com, Oct. 31, 2017) |
