MERLOT 2015 Napa Valley |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
EMMOLO |
Extremely deep intense purple colour. Intense, very spicy, juicy, somewhat baked, black cherry puree nose with some cedar-sandalwood notes. Fairly dry, medium-full bodied, harmonious, very spicy, maturing, slightly cooked, red and black cherry puree flavours with a lingering, fairly sweetish, sandalwood-cedar finish. This somewhat boring, commercial, overpriced Merlot has a whopping 15.4% alcohol and 10 g/L residual sugar. Made by Emmolo owner Jenny Wagner (the LCBO website says that it is Charles F. Wagner), comes in an unappealing bottle reminiscent of the shape of the Wagner family’s Camus Conundrum. Stylistically, it’s a big pass for me. |

TASTING NOTE: This Merlot from Emmolo is [a] terrific follow up to the 2014. The 2015 is dark red colored and slightly opaque. It opens with a ripe black cherry bouquet with notes of black raspberry. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, balanced and juicy. The flavor profile is a tasty black cherry with notes of oak. I also detected hints of minerality and black currant. The finish is dry and its flavors and moderate tannins sail away nicely. This is a very good wine and would be a perfect match with a filet mignon at your favorite steak house. Enjoy.
