OLD SOUL CHARDONNAY 2016 Lodi |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
OAK RIDGE |
Bright light straw colour. A somewhat odd, fairly spicy, faintly smoky, mineral-tinged, baked lemon-apple nose. Dry, medium bodied, very spicy, smoky, bacon-tinged, lemon meringue flavours with a high acid, very cedary finish. Ready-to-drink. Not my style. Has 13% alcohol and 10 g/L residual sugar. |

TASTING NOTE: The Old Soul line from Oak Ridge is crafted from older vines, which produce wines of more intensity and flavour concentration. This 2016 does not disappoint, with an attractive nose that suggests white flowers and fruit and a hint of mint. Spicy and exquisite on the palate with complex orange citrus, lemon, yellow apple and spice. Gorgeous structure and balance. Try this with grilled pork with mint-apple sauce, or grilled salmon steaks. (Vintages panel, July 2017) |
