Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
CASTELLO DI QUERCETO |
Very deep purple red colour. Gently complex, slightly spicy, ripe plum and baked cherries on the sandalwood-tinged nose with some earthy notes. Dry well structured, medium-full bodied, fairly extracty, tangy, red plum and dusty dried red cherry flavours with a lingering, red licorice-tinged finish. This still youthful grippy blend of 95% Sangiovese and 5% Colorino has 13.5% alcohol and 3 g/L residual sugar. The 2001 (**+) was released on April 14, 2007 at $42.95. TONY ASPLER / 89-points - Cedary, spicy clove and black cherry bouquet; medium-bodied, dry, red plum flavour with lively acidity and a firm tannic finish. |

Monica Larner awarded this wine a rating of 93 points, calling it \"... a very beautiful rendition made with 95% Sangiovese and 5% Colorino ... especially elegant ... with fine tannins and clean fruit intensity.\" Larner suggested a drinking window extending through 2028. (robertparker.com, Jan. 31, 2017) TASTING NOTE: Wonderful aromas of blueberries and minerals follow through to a full body, polished tannins, blueberry flavors and light vanilla undertones. Fresh finish. Serious wine. Beautiful and from a top single vineyard. Drink now. Score - 95 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Nov. 9, 2016) |
