LE PHANT 2013 Hawkes Bay, North Island
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer ELEPHANT HILL
Extremely deep intense purple colour. Intense, complex, smoky, mocha-chocolate-cassis-black cherry nose. Dry, medium-full bodied, quite well structured, slightly spicy, baked black cherry-cassis flavours with a lingering, cedary, somewhat smoky, mocha-chocolate finish. This blend of merlot, cabernet and malbec has 13.5% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with a screwcap closure. The timing of this 2013 release is odd, because the last time it appeared it was the recommended 2014 (**+) released on May 14, 2016 at $22.95. CSPC 447367

TASTING NOTE: Lovely complexity on the nose - dark plum, cassis, floral, cedar and a hint of cigar. The palate is equally attractive with excellent fruit intensity, beautifully supported by silky texture and fine, chalky tannins. The wine shows wonderful balance and poise, and [is] destined to develop gracefully. A blend of merlot, cabernet and malbec. At its best: 2015 to 2022. Score - 93 (Sam Kim, wineorbit.co.nz, June 2014) Price $ 23.95
Bottle Size 750 mL
