CHÂTEAU MAURAC 2004 Cru Bourgeois, AC Haut-Médoc |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
|
Deep intense purple red colour. Slightly spicy, fairly intense, mature, baked plum nose with some sandalwood notes. Dry, medium bodied, quite well structured, slightly spicy, baked plum and red licorice notes on the lingering, sandalwood-tinged finish. Ready-to-drink. This blend is usually two-thirds Merlot with one-third Cabernet Sauvignon and has 13.5% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number L11 on the front label. It has been in Vintages four times before, most recently the 2012 (**) on June 11, 2016 at $26.95 with cspc 365817. This is very well-priced for a delicious 2004. |

TASTING NOTE: A Silver Medal winner at Mundus Vini 2008, this wine was grown in the Left Bank appellation of Haut- Médoc and blends roughly two-thirds Merlot with one-third Cabernet Sauvignon. It's almost fully mature with lovely notes of dried figs, peppery spices, game meats, tobacco and leather along with hints of fresh mulberry and plum, all caressed by smooth, mellow tannins. Drink through 2024 with herb-crusted flank steak and sautéed mushrooms. (Vintages panel, Sept. 2017) |
